COACH NEHEMIAH BRUNSON LEADS ARMY AND NAVY ACADEMY TO A HISTORIC VICTORY AND CELEBRATES A STRONG SEASON FINISH
Carlsbad, CA – Army and Navy Academy's varsity football team, under the leadership of Head Coach and Athletic Director Nehemiah Brunson, celebrated Coach Brunson’s 50th win this season and concluded a remarkable season with an 8-3 record. The team's journey ended in the D3 playoffs with a hard-fought game against Eastlake, where they fell 21-7. Despite the loss, the Warriors displayed commendable spirit and determination throughout the season.
Nehemiah Brunson, who joined the Army and Navy Academy as Head Coach in 2015, has been instrumental in revitalizing the Warriors' football program. Known for his strategic acumen and ability to inspire his players, Coach Brunson's coaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
"Reaching 50 wins is a tremendous honor. Each victory is a testament to the hard work our team puts in day in and day out. This milestone isn't just mine; it's a reflection of the dedication of every player and staff member who has been part of this journey," said Coach Nehemiah Brunson.
This season, several Cadets were recognized for their outstanding performances. Nehemiah Brunson Jr., Jonah Tua, and Zavier Leatherman were named to the First Team Defense. Nehemiah Brunson Jr. previously announced his commitment to play football for the U.S. Military Academy West Point. Leatherman recently announced his commitment to play Rugby for Boise State. Additionally, Second Team Defense honors went to Korey Fatiaki and Caleb Munoz, while Patrick Knight and Jacob Eastley were selected for the Second Team Offense. Logan Rogers, Tristan Hoag, Royce Fielder, and Troy Samoa received Honorable Mentions for their contributions.
Nehemiah Brunson Jr. was notably one vote shy of being named Defensive Player of the Year. Jonah Tua secured a commendable third-place finish for the title.
"Coach Brunson’s landmark 50th win and this season’s achievements are not just a testament to his expertise but also to the hard work and determination of our Cadet-athletes," said Barry Shreiar, Chairman of the Army and Navy Academy Board of Trustees. "His leadership extends beyond the field, fostering character, discipline, and family that are integral to our mission of developing virtuous leaders."
