International Student Spotlight
What motivates international students to attend school far from home at Army and Navy Academy?
In our newest video, we hear the stories of Cadets from Rwanda, Mexico, Taiwan, and China, who offer their insights into what made Army and Navy Academy their school of choice. They talk about how they are building friendships, learning English, and using their experiences at ANA to accelerate their paths toward a great future.
A huge thanks to Cadets Khalid Alfakhri, Abdullah Alfakhri, Hanlang Niu, Chun-Hsiang Chang, Ricardo Senkomane, Noah Shyaka, Rommel Nelson Vega, and Rodolfo Nelson IV for their participation and commitment during the filming of this video. We are so proud of these young men for sharing their stories!
Campus Improvements
The Academy is continuing its efforts to modernize and improve our living and learning environments. We are currently focused on 4 major improvement projects:
1) Academic and Learning Center - The Samuel Warfield Peterson Library, named after the fourth President of Army and Navy Academy, is being revitalized and transformed into a new Academic and Learning Center that will provide an inviting space for students to collaborate and study. The remodel consists of new flooring, windows, window blinds, lighting, paint and new furniture, which is currently being selected by our Academic leadership team. The space will also eventually house a recording studio with an production room for future ANA TV projects, podcast development, music technology, and much more.
2) Anderson Hall - Anderson Hall, our largest dormitory, will be renovated and refreshed starting in November, with an anticipated completion in January of 2025. Renovated rooms will include fresh paint, flooring, lighting, windows, doors, and new furniture. This will bring Anderson Hall's living quarters up to match the high standard set by our renovation of Crean and Atkinson Halls. In order to accomplish the renovation "in stride", work will be completed 2 quads at a time, with Cadets moving into temporary rooms will their quad is being renovated.
3) Classroom Additions - The Academy's growing student body and establishment of cutting-edge opportunities like our upcoming Robotics program have necessitated additional classrooms on campus. The area that currently houses offices for Academics and Cadet Life will be converted back into 3 classrooms starting in late October. The Academics office area will be transformed into the Robotics classroom and laboratory. The remainder of the space will become two classrooms with a moveable dividing wall, which will permit either two large classrooms or one extra large classroom configuration. We anticipate starting the renovation of the Robotics area first, as soon as Academic offices are moved into the Academic and Learning Center. The remaining two classrooms should be completed shortly after the relocation of Cadet Life staff.
4) Cadet Life Relocation - Cadet Life offices, including those for the Commandant, Middle School Commandant, and Assistant Commandant, will relocate to the 500 building, which currently houses ANAPA storage and historic storage. Storage will be relocated to the basement of Davis Hall. This renovation will begin as soon as possible.
New Organizational Structure
We wanted to take the opportunity to announce an exciting step we took this summer to enhance our collaboration and focus. The Academy has restructured our staff into three major divisions, with Major General Combs continuing in her role as our President and chief executive. These divisions are as follows:
Business and Operations: Led by Executive Vice President Frank Monteleone Jr. overseeing Finance, Facilities, HR, Bookstore, Health Center, Maintenance, Transportation, and Security
Revenue and Resources: Led by EVP COL Blaine Hedges, USA Ret., overseeing Admission, Advancement, Marketing, Summer Program, Alumni, and Facility Rentals
Mission: Directly led by the President, overseeing Academics, Cadet Life, JROTC, Athletics, Information Technology, and ANAPA
By aligning departments with shared objectives and providing focused leadership, we anticipate significant improvements in efficiency, resource allocation, and overall institutional performance.
Warrior football defensive end Jonah Tua was recently profiled on KUSI's Prep Pigskin report, where he discussed playing for family and how being an underdog builds character. We are proud of Jonah and his accomplishments as here at the Academy! Please view his segment here.
Warrior Water Polo is participating in the Spartans Invite tournament this weekend on October 12th, beginning at 8:50AM. The tournament will be held at Granite Hills High School at 1719 East Madison Avenue, El Cajon, CA 92019 and all Warrior families are invited to attend. We will be hosting a lunchtime tailgate in the parking lot to refuel our fine young players!
Spend Spring Break Eating Pasta in Italy!
For Cadets and families interested in our upcoming Spring Break trip to Italy, we will be hosting an informational meeting on Saturday, October 19th at 1:30PM during Alumni Homecoming Weekend. The deadline to sign up for this life-changing travel experience is rapidly approaching! If you have questions, please email Ann Marie Castellano, the trip advisor, at acastellano@armyandnavyacademy.org.
Spread the word! As we speed into enrollment season for the 2025-2026 school year, our Admission team is hosting exciting Meet and Greets across California and neighboring states. Tell your friends about our next event in Palos Verdes at the Terranea Resort on October 10th from 4PM-7PM. Current families and alums are welcomed and encouraged to join. This is a great opportunity to build the Academy community by sharing your stories with prospective Warrior families.
Bring a Buddy
Help us build the Corps of Cadets! Army and Navy Academy is a unique and special community, and we would like your help in selecting the best of the best to apply as future Cadets. As we continue our Fall rolling admissions and gear up toward enrolling students for mid-year arrival in January, we wanted to take the opportunity to remind you of our Bring a Buddy program. Your Cadet will receive a $1000 bookstore credit for every verified enrollment resulting from a referral as our way to say "thank you" for helping spread the word about the Academy.
Join us for our 16th annual Veterans Day Military Review co-hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Carlsbad. This is a community event so bring your friends, and family and spread the word.
