Welcome back to another edition of the Weekly Warrior newsletter. In this issue, you'll find a round-up from almost every department with reminders for upcoming events.
As you look at the calendar at the bottom of this newsletter, you'll note that there is no school on February 17 for Presidents Day and February 21 for a faculty professional development day. School is in session, however, for the interim days of February 18-20 and we expect to see your Cadet's smiling face in class.
Journalist and father of an ANA Cadet, K. John Lee published an opinion piece in the Oklahoman this week and the content won't be surprising to any ANA parent or alumnus. Titled Today's young men are doing worse than their fathers. How can we fix that? Lee reflects on his son Peter's educational needs, ".. I’ve come to understand how critical it is to create environments that align with boys’ unique needs and tendencies. Peter’s experience illustrated this point perfectly, which went beyond his educational experience. He had been struggling in a traditional environment that emphasized conformity and rote learning. He needed structure, discipline, and a sense of purpose ― qualities he instinctively sought and ultimately found at an all-boys military school." ANA is a unique academic environment for young men and we are currently in collaboration with Dr. Michael Gurian, an expert on the science of male brain development and specifically in how boys learn, on a white paper to be published soon. We will share that when it's live.
This past weekend, Anshul Bhide (’28) delivered an unforgettable performance in the Humorous Interpretation category of his speech tournament. Up against tough competition, Anshul memorized a full script and acted out multiple characters—an impressive feat on its own. But what happened next was even more remarkable: Anshul swept the entire tournament! He not only secured 1st place overall but also won every single round from every judge—an achievement that rarely happens. Congratulations, Anshul! Your hard work and talent continue to make the Warrior community proud.
